The Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) proudly announces 958 third-year college students as new qualifiers for the 2025 Junior Level Science Scholarships (JLSS).
Among the qualifiers, 376 earned slots under the RA 7687 Scholarship Program, which supports talented students from underprivileged families; 404 qualified under the Merit Scholarship Program, which recognizes students with outstanding academic performance in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM); and 178 qualified under the RA 10612, also known as the “Fast-Tracked S&T Scholarship Act of 2013,” which aims to produce STEM graduates who will later teach science and mathematics in secondary schools nationwide.
The newly named scholars were selected from among 14,609 applicants who took the JLSS qualifying examination on July 27 and August 10, 2025, conducted in 104 testing centers across the country. Additionally, 42 potential qualifiers must resubmit pertinent documents for further evaluation before final confirmation of their eligibility.
Qualifiers who accept the scholarship will receive two to three years of financial assistance and academic support, including: ₱8,000 monthly living allowance; tuition and other school fees subsidy of up to ₱40,000 per academic year for those enrolled in private institutions; allowance for learning materials and connectivity at ₱10,000 per academic year; one round-trip economy-class fare per academic year for those studying outside their home province; thesis allowance; group health and accident insurance coverage; and graduation allowance.
Notices of award will be issued by the DOST-SEI and through the DOST Regional Offices. Qualifiers will also be informed of the schedule for the orientation schedule on scholarship policies and requirements, which both the scholar and their parent or legal guardian must attend prior to signing the scholarship agreement. Meanwhile, potential qualifiers will receive separate notices specifying the documents needed for completion of their evaluation.
DOST-SEI Director Dr. Jayeel S. Cornelio expressed his message of support, underscoring the Institute’s commitment to nurture the country’s future scientists and innovators and bring inclusive STEM education to every community: “Through our scholarship programs, we aspire to reach Filipino youth across the archipelago and open pathways to quality education and scientific training, making science more accessible to all,” said Dr. Cornelio. “Each scholar represents a story of potential, perseverance, and hope. Our mission is to ensure that they have the fair chance to dream bigger, learn deeper, and contribute to forging a better future for our country.” Dr. Cornelio added.
This year, DOST-SEI welcomed a total of 12,000 new science scholars across all levels: 11,000 under the undergraduate programs and 1,000 for JLSS, representing a diverse community of students from regions and universities nationwide. To further broaden its reach, the Institute is preparing for an expanded cycle of scholarship opportunities to accommodate even more aspiring scientists and engineers, starting with the upcoming 2026 Undergraduate Scholarship Examination, scheduled for February 2026.
With the help of our partners in government and the education sector, SEI aims to secure a broader fiscal space that will allow the Institute to support a larger number of scholars in the years ahead.
